Korea eliminated from Round of 32 contention — Ghana and Congo matches both miss, final J match no longer matters

2026-06-27 · about 3 min read

Korea’s Round of 32 scenario is now closed. Spain’s 1-0 win over Uruguay in Group H had produced one favorable result, but Group G’s Egypt vs Iran 1-1 draw was a miss. On June 28, both Group L Ghana vs Croatia and Group K Congo vs Uzbekistan also ended unfavorably for Korea. With those two misses, Korea can no longer meet the required condition. Even if the remaining Group J match is favorable, it will not be enough to reach the Round of 32. (All times KST, listed chronologically)

Final Korea Round of 32 scenario infographic — Groups D, E, F, G, I, L, and K are misses for Korea; only Group H is a hit. With Ghana vs Croatia and Congo vs Uzbekistan both missing, Korea is eliminated regardless of the remaining Group J result.

Conclusion — Korea is eliminated regardless of Group J

After the Group H hit, Korea needed 2 more favorable results from the remaining L, K, and J matches. But L and K both became misses, leaving only Group J. One remaining match cannot provide the two additional hits required.

The key condition was “2 of the remaining 3.” Once both L and K missed, the single remaining J match could no longer be enough. Therefore, even a favorable J result cannot change Korea’s elimination.

💡
At a glance — only Group H was a hit; D, E, F, G, I, L, and K are misses. With L and K both missing, Korea is out regardless of Group J.
