Cables get tangled not because they are long, but because they are tossed into one container without knowing which device they belong to. Label their identity and tie the ends together, and the drawer becomes flat, removing the space where tangles can form. All you need is 10 Velcro straps about 1.5cm wide, masking tape, and one permanent marker.

Follow this 5-minute labeling routine
- Take out all the cables, spread them on a desk, and sort them into 3 piles by type: charging, data, and video.
- Coil each cable into a circle about the width of your palm, roughly 10cm in diameter. If you wrap it in a figure-eight shape, it will not twist the next time you unwind it.
- Secure the center of the coiled cable once with a Velcro strap.
- Cut a 2cm piece of masking tape and attach it like a flag 5cm above the connector at the end of the cable.
- Write the purpose and length with a permanent marker. Examples: “phone charging 1m,” “laptop video 2m.”
- Stand them upright in a shoebox or compartment organizer like books on a shelf.
