Layout Tips for Organizing Shoes in a Narrow Entryway
First, divide shoes into three groups
- Everyday shoes: 2–3 pairs worn at least 4 times a week
- Occasional shoes: sneakers or dress shoes worn 1–2 times a week
- Off-season shoes: boots or sandals not worn this month
Move off-season shoes out of the entryway to the top shelf of the shoe cabinet or to a closet. Keeping only the 2–3 pairs you wear every day on the entryway floor is the first step to organizing a narrow entryway.

Stack upward to double the usable area

- Place each pair in alternating directions, with the toe of one shoe and the heel of the other facing forward. This reduces the left-to-right width by 3–4cm.

Note: If all shoe toes face the same direction, toward the entry door, you do not need to turn the shoes around when leaving, and the space also looks visually aligned and tidy.
Shoe boxes only take up bulk, so discard them decisively. If storage is needed, switch to transparent shoe cases with visible fronts so you can see the contents at a glance and find shoes easily. The cases can be stacked upward without collapsing, making them especially useful for narrow shoe cabinets.
