Keeping Scale from Building Up in a Small Bathroom

2026-06-11 · about 2 min read

It is easier to prevent scale than to scrub it off

A Daily 30-Second Routine

  1. After showering, splash cold water over the walls and glass for 5 seconds to rinse away soap suds.
  2. Use a squeegee to push water down the glass and tiles from top to bottom 3 to 4 times.
  3. Wipe the edge of the sink and the area under the faucet once with a dry microfiber towel.
  4. Leave the bathroom door open by 5cm with the exhaust fan on, and air out the moisture for at least 30 minutes.

Weekly 5-Minute Care

Once a week, use the cleaning power of baking soda and vinegar. However, if you mix the two at the same time, they will only foam up and lose cleaning effectiveness, so use them separately in the order of “baking soda first, then vinegar.” Never mix bleach (chlorine-based) with acidic cleaners or vinegar, as this can release harmful gas.

3 Habits That Invite ScaleShort key point

3 Habits That Invite Scale

  • Leaving wet towels and bath mats hanging inside the bathroom (a major cause of lingering humidity)
  • Turning off the exhaust fan immediately after showering
  • Placing shampoo bottles and razors directly on the tiles, allowing water to pool underneath
💡
Note: Place shampoo and body wash bottles on a perforated shelf or holder so they sit 5mm above the surface. Water that pools under bottles is a common breeding spot for pink mold.
