Care Steps to Revive a Cordless Vacuum Filter When Suction Gets Weak

Weak suction is usually a blockage, not the motor

When a vacuum cleaner suddenly loses suction, it is easy to suspect a breakdown first, but in most cases dust is blocking the airflow. Check just three areas: an overfilled dustbin, fine dust trapped in the filter, and hair tangled around the brush. Clear the blocked spots in order, and the suction can feel almost like new again.

Check the clogged areas first

• Dustbin: Once it is more than 60% full, suction drops noticeably. Emptying it after every use is the basic rule.
• Pre-filter (the mesh above the dustbin) and HEPA filter: When fine dust cakes onto them, air cannot pass through. If they look cloudy and blocked when held up to the light, it is time to wash them.
• Intake and brush: If hair and threads are wrapped around the brush and slow its rotation, the suction surface is effectively blocked.

6 steps to restore suction

1. Step 1: Turn off the power and remove the battery. Detaching electrical parts before washing with water is a basic safety rule.
2. Step 2: Empty the dustbin, then remove the pre-filter and HEPA filter. While they are dry, tap them gently first to shake off larger dust.
3. Step 3: Rinse the filter in lukewarm water, around 30 degrees. Do not use detergent. Rinse under running water from the inside outward for 1 to 2 minutes to push out fine dust.
4. Step 4: Cut once along the direction of the hair tangled around the brush with scissors, then pull it out. Scrape out dust blocking the inside of the intake with a cotton swab or chopstick.
5. Step 5: Do not wring the filter by twisting it with your hands. Shake it lightly, then dry it completely in the shade for at least 24 hours. Installing a filter that is not fully dry can lead to mold, odors, and motor damage.
6. Step 6: Once every part is completely dry, reassemble everything in reverse order, insert the battery, and check the suction.

If you set a regular maintenance schedule, suction is less likely to drop. A common guideline is to wash the pre-filter every two weeks, wash the HEPA filter once a month, and replace the HEPA filter with a new one once a year.
